# Fuel and Power

# Water Fuel (and Oxygen)

Going with the theme, water has replaced hydrogen as the main fuel. Jetpacks use it, drives use it, thrusters use it. It works much the same as hydrogen in vanilla.

For now, the only ways to obtain **Water** are:

* Build a H2O2 Generator on a grid with an *Outpost* or *Installation* Core (see [Ship Cores](/doc/fb682a00-e536-49bd-baeb-1b5d8534f519)) and make water and oxygen from ice
* Siphon it from NPC ship wrecks (be advised: connecting to another ship will re-power it)

> 1. Mine some Ice
> 2. Add an Outpost Core to the skiff
> 3. Add a H2O2 Generator or two
> 4. Let it churn through the Ice to refill your tanks (1 unit of Ice → 1 ltr. of Water)
> 5. Remove the H2O2 Generator and the Outpost Core to turn the ship back into a Skiff

# Power

## Reactors

Reactors and their fuel are expensive early on, but very reliable and they can provide large amounts of power.

:::tip
Military Reactors have a higher total power output and block integrity, while Civilian Reactors are more fuel efficient and easier to build.

:::

Main sources of Fusion Fuel Pellets:

* Assembling
* NPC Hunting
* Missions
* Voting

## Batteries

Batteries waste power when charging and have a *far* lower recharge input compared to their output. Both output and overall capacity are greatly buffed compared to vanilla Space Engineers, leading to very long recharge times.

:::info
On grid with active reactors, avoid 'Auto' mode on your batteries to conserve Fusion Fuel Pellets.

:::

## Solar Panels

Power harvested from Solar Panels is dependent on their distance from the sun. Stations placed in the inner Sol system can easily be powered by solar. Due to the actual light source being a little offset from the suns position, you should be aligning your Solar Panels going by the shadows cast from sunlight.

:::info
The sun *does not* move on SDX. You don’t need a rotating, sun-following subgrid on your stations.
